Brandon Yates talks about AI internet marketing and the past similarities
I’m doing something I don’t usually do: writing this post 100% myself. In the past, I would pay content writers to create 2000-word blogs, which I would then review and optimize with my search engine optimization (SEO) knowledge. Now, I find myself doing the same thing with artificial intelligence (AI).
However, I do see these AI internet marketing tools that research trends, create posts, and handle everything. A set-it-and-forget-it approach that makes all sorts of promises or claims.
Then comes the fear: if it seems too good to be true, it most likely is. Just like Google says, they prefer quality over quantity. I would hate to spend time ranking my site only to be marked as spam.
Over the past few years, I’ve worked with all kinds of AI websites and tools, trying to find ways to save time or money. So far, everything is going well, but as I mentioned before, I have to keep a close eye on as much as I can. This reminds me of my past days building web crawlers, or scrapers, as we called them back then. We would train cron job commands to crawl websites, searching for and saving information for a listings website we were working on.
Most of the time, we would end up with more junk than usable content, so we trained the program to know what to do per site. Even then, we found that they blocked our IP addresses, leading us to acquire more by renting them. Of course, they had most of the VPN IP addresses blocked already. This turned into a cat-and-mouse game that lasted for years.
This is how I see Google and AI-generated website content, mostly referring to text content posts. Videos might run wild, but only due to pure entertainment value.
I have heard others say, “Google doesn’t care! Just as long as it’s good quality content”. But I say just wait until bots take over most first page results, preventing average humans from ranking at all…
I bet something would be done then, or I hope before then. But in all honesty, aren’t we almost at that point now?..
I’ll end this post with this: no matter how smart you think you are, I promise you that someone even smarter is being paid to prevent you daily. This is why I try to always put in a little elbow grease, if not do everything myself. It honestly depends on the situation, but I would never flat-out trust AI 100% to run without supervision. Also, consider if this advances even more. As you can see in the video below.
Thank you for taking the time to read this blog. I hope you enjoy the content posted here and that it might help you grow and learn.
Take care!
